We’ve Gone Plastic Free!

We understand that when you buy something online you don’t have much control over how it will be packaged and sent to you. We’ve all seen and heard stories of items being delivered in boxes much bigger than needed and filled to the brim with unnecessary plastic packaging.

At Farrar & Tanner, we’re making big changes to reduce our, your, and our suppliers’ impact on the environment.

What Goes Into our Packaging:

We receive hundreds of deliveries a year, which means we’ve got a lot of boxes. Instead of buying in polystyrene and plastic air pockets, these boxes are turned into packing material using our ProfiPack machine. This gives the cardboard a new life and it can still be recycled when it reaches you!

There isn’t any bubblewrap in our warehouse. To make sure your carefully chosen gifts reach you in perfect condition we use a combination of straw and Protega Global cardboard wrap. Protega’s mission is to eliminate packaging pollution and we’re proudly supporting this movement!

Using straw to secure our premium wines and champagnes not only removes bubble wrap, but it creates a beautifully packaged gift!

Before getting shipped off in the Royal Mail van, everything is put in either a recyclable Jiffy Green padded envelope or one of our post boxes made from 70% recycled material. Sealed with paper tape, your order is then heading out the door on its way to you!

The Bigger Picture:

All of the packaging we use is plastic free and can either be composted, reused, or recycled at home. We still receive a number of products from our suppliers wrapped individually in plastic, which means you may receive some of this in your parcel. By eliminating plastic from our own packaging, we are reducing our internal waste and using this as a platform to make suppliers stand up and take note. By getting in contact with the manufacturers and requesting changes we can reduce unwanted plastic waste even further, and we’re already seeing improvements!

Small changes you can make to reduce your plastic waste:

From taking your own shopping bags to using a bamboo toothbrush, there are steps each of us can make to reduce our impact on the planet.

2 billion plastic razors end up in landfill every year. A steel safety razor could last a lifetime, and beyond, and the blades are fully recyclable. Adding one to your morning routine will minimise the amount of plastic you are purchasing. Before heading out the door, grab a flask full of homebrewed coffee to not only save you money but to stop another disposable cup being added to our oceans. Currently, the UK throws away 2.5 billion cups a year and less than 1% of disposable cups are recycled.

With the help of Klean Kanteen and Edwin Jagger, we can offer some easy swaps:

Edwin Jagger Double Edge Razor – £26

Klean Kanteen Insulated Flask – £35
