Founded in Paris in 1872 by Simon Tissot-Dupont, S.T. Dupont began as a maker of luxury travel cases and bespoke leather goods before developing into one of France’s most distinctive luxury houses. Its reputation has been shaped by meticulous craftsmanship and an ability to bring together traditional techniques with ingenious mechanical design, qualities that would later become particularly synonymous with its lighters and writing instruments.
S.T. Dupont introduced its first luxury lighter in 1952, establishing a tradition that would become central to the house. Its celebrated lighters are recognised for their precise mechanisms, refined finishes and, on selected models, the distinctive resonant ‘cling’ heard when the cap is opened. The house turned its attention to writing instruments in 1973, reportedly following a request from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis for a pen to complement her S.T. Dupont lighter. Today, its lighter and pen collections continue these two defining strands of the S.T. Dupont story, combining French design, craftsmanship and more than 150 years of heritage.
